The Harambee came alive with the inspiring voices of the Young People's Chorus of New York. Founded by its artistic director Francisco J. Nunez in 1988, the YPC has become one of the most celebrated and influential children's choruses in the country.
Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Teresa Connors, proprietor of Penelope's Parasols and a well known NPR voiceover. The first speaker was, Alex Wexler, a Daniel Perl award winner, a commodities reporter for Dow Jones, and a Kageno volunteer. Following Alex, Sarah and Jarod Ring spoke movingly of their two years working with Kageno as Peace Corps volunteers in Banda, Rwanda. Rounding out our speakers, John Isaac, an award winning photojournalist and author, talked of his many years documenting the countless varieties of human experience he’s witnessed around the world.
Jennifer Wright, a professional auctioneer at Christie’s and the Head of Sale of its Old Master and 19th Century Drawings department, took charge of the Harambee’s live auction—auctioning off two “priceless” dinners, an exotic Tuscan get-away, and a basketball lesson with an NBA star.
