Kageno has been a place of hope in our community and one of the programs is the Nursery school. It was a happy day on 7th of May when the nursery school was reopened with the children walking majestically into the compound laughing and smiling jovially with their friends from the long vacation.
The children formed groups that were chattering on what they saw, ate and where they went. Some of them opened the school with new uniforms and others with new socks. They were all smiling with their friends and telling them how smart they are.
It was also the very day when a school bell was brought to us. This will make the children respond and go to their various places were their teachers need them to be. The teachers welcomed the children in the school environment by singing and praying to them and finally they went to their classes.

One of the classes in Kageno nursery school is the middle class. The lessons began on the opening day, the 7th May. All the teachers were present at the school and ready to continue with their work.
As a teacher I planned to teach the theme 'water’ but all in all I could not manage as the children were talkative. The children were so happy to be back in school and to meet their teachers and fellow friends they had been missing over the holiday. The planned lessons could not continue but the children sat in groups and told their likes and dislikes.
As a teacher I learnt a lot about these children and by the end of the day the children learnt new words for their vocabularies. Sharing of experiences over the holidays was good and this is one of the achievements of the day. After lunch the children went for indoor free choice while I continued with making learning materials.

Kageno has been a better place and is really a place of hope to the entire community and me. One program is education sponsorship. It was on 8th April 2007 that Maren and I went for our fourth session of In Service Course, which is sponsored by Kageno. The weather of that day was good. The road was not muddy so we woke up early in the morning to get the Rusinga- Homabay bus.
We reached Homabay at around noon and took the Homabay- Rongo bus. We reached Rongo at around 2.30pm and hired a bodaboda to carry our luggage to the college. The road to Rongo was bumpy and had a lot of pot holes, so we were very tired when we arrived in school.
The school has a few students who come from various places. We were happy to meet again, they asked us wether we have fish for them, unfortunately we didn't carry any. After chatting for a couple of minutes we went straight to find our beds and clean our lockers, chairs and the classroom.
The next day was busy with class work, lecturers were coming in one after the other to complete the short 3-week learning course. At the end of the second week, students were sent to go and bring the remaining school fees. I very much want to thank the Kageno management and the Director, they made us stay in school throughout the 3 weeks learning session without any movement out of the college. Thank you very much.
Days came and went, the last day came and we woke up early to wish one another goodbye. Later the college director came to wish us goodbye and to give us reports on the opening day and other announcements. He then told us to leave at our own will. We were happy to complete the busy fourth session.
